POLICY TRANSITION TO SCHOOL

The Policy has been developed by Bright Beginnings Childcare Centre.

Rationale

To aid the process for children in preparing them for school


Objective
  • To assist parents/whanau with the preparation and transition to school
  • To provide verbal or written communication with the school as per prior approval of the parent/caregiver

Procedures
  • The centre prepares children with school readiness skills they will need at school. These skills include emotional and physical preparedness.
  • Children will be accustomed in how to handle books, having stories read to them, speaking in a group, participating in mat situations, listening to CD stories.
  • The teachers will endeavour to support the children to effectively and appropriately express their thoughts and feelings
  • The teachers will discuss school life with the child and promote school as a positive place for the child to be
  • Children will be supported to be able to articulate the rules of acceptable behaviour, demonstrate consideration of others, work well with and alongside others, show an interest in learning and contribute their ideas
  • Children nearing school age will be given more responsibility for themselves with such tasks as looking after their personal belongings, and managing their food requirement for the day
  • The teacher’s will finalise the child’s portfolio with a farewell letter prior to the child’s last day
