Working in the Office

Today I explained to some of the children ‘some’ of the jobs I have to do when I’m actually in my office. They seemed interested to see what I did and how I did these ‘office jobs’. Brilliant!

The children wanted to help and to be honest, I needed some workers! So, off we went …. I set my office up outside and collected all the essential stationery and equipment to carry out my “office job”.

We talked about ‘work ethics’ and ‘commitment’ and how this relates to our task at hand. The children soon realised that once you have a job, then it is good work ethic to finish the job … I also explained, that we can’t do half the job because that means someone else has to do our work. Or, the worst case is we can get ‘fired’.

The engagement levels of the children soared! They were especially interested about Lorri getting “fired”!.

Once we got over the initial excitement of a potential change in management, we moved on to setting the actual tasks. Miss M and Master JB – started handing out notices and checking off each child’s name. Masters J and N – commenced our Maintenance and Property checks. Miss S and Miss V – started filing documents.

At the end of the day, we sat down and talked through our work. Some of the children seemed surprised I still have a job! My feedback to them, was that they were diligent, hardworking, efficient and tough (and that they would give some adults a run for their money!!).
